BANTING : The Education Ministry has started disbursing RM100 allowance to some 5.5 million students nationwide, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the funds, amounting to RM550 million, will be paid to Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) accounts of schools, who will then pay the amount to students or their parents.
"The allowances will be paid for students between Standard 1 and Form 4.
"For those entering Standard 1 and Form 1, the money will be disbursed in January as we do not know which school they will be placed at," Muhyiddin told a 4,000 strong crowd while visiting the Selangor Matriculation College here yesterday.He added that BSN had agreed to open up temporary accounts for schools which do not have accounts with them.
